Answer: The Vermont Affordable Housing Coalition (VAHC) is a statewide membership organization dedicated to ensuring that all Vermonters have safe, adequate, physically accessible and affordable housing. Our further mission is to: - Encourage resident participation and control in their housing; - Prioritize the needs and voices of the states low- and moderate-income residents. This includes, but is not limited to, Black, Indigenous, and people of color; new Americans; LGBTQ+ people, people with disabilities, people experiencing homelessness; seniors; and families with children; - Advocate for the preservation of existing housing, protection of renters, and the development of new perpetually affordable housing; - Promote the recognition of housing as a basic human right for all Vermonters through education of the public and elected officials; and Act as a catalyst for exploring and developing innovative means of preserving and increasing Vermonts affordable housing stock. The Coalitions 90-plus members represent most of Vermonts nonprofit affordable housing developers, community land trusts, homeless shelters and service providers, public housing authorities, funding agencies, residents associations, community action agencies, regional planners, and housing, disability and tenants rights advocates. Together, VAHCs members provide housing and services to tens of thousands of low-income Vermonters.
