Answer: The Summer Science Program is an independent nonprofit operating residential programs in experimental science research for gifted teenagers, on several college campuses. Each program is an immersion into experimental science, designed to challenge and inspire talented rising seniors from around the world. Working in teams of three, participants complete a research project from beginning to end: either in Astrophysics near-earth asteroid imaging and orbit determination or Biochemistry fungal enzyme inhibition and drug discovery. Each team acquires its own original data and performs its own analysis. Field trips and guest speakers round out an intense 39-day schedule. Info and application at summerscience.org. Alumni and former faculty from every SSP program since 1959 are voting members for life, making SSP the only summer program governed, operated, and largely funded by people who directly experienced it themselves ... powerful testimony to its impact.
