Answer: Thomas Rogerson started his business in 1905 when the need was for heavy, durable footwear giving protection from the environment & long wear. During the 40's & 50's, one of Thomas' sons Jack developed the business further in Scotland, with the opening of quality shoe shops in Kelso & Galashiels. During the 60's Jack's son Paul joined the business after studying at Northampton Boot & Shoe College. In 1976 Paul opened the Peebles shop, fitted in a modern style & with new ranges of shoes. One of the brands introduced was Mephisto, a good, hard wearing, French walking shoe with excellent fitting properties. In the early 1990's Paul opened the first Edinburgh shop in Rose Street, selling only Mephisto. Soon after Paul opened the UK's first Ecco shop, also on Rose Street. Since then we have grown to 14 shops in total, & the business is now run by Paul's children William & Sarah, supported by a team of around 160 people. The business has continued to grow , based on the principle of providing footwear which represents both quality & value for money. The breadth of our range, with many styles & brands unique to our business, makes us different from many other footwear retailers . We go to great lengths to source the best & most interesting shoes for our customers, principally from Europe. The business operates various formats, firstly our multi-brand business Fine Rogerson Footwear where we sell a wide range of quality branded products. We have Clearing Shops which sell discontinued stock from our multi-brand shops & from our suppliers, 1st grade substandard & special purchase footwear. There are some amazing buys to be had in our Clearing Shops! We opened Scotland's first Rieker shop, in Ayr, providing unprecedented access to this excellent value brand, just a few doors down from our Fine Rogerson Footwear shop in Newmarket Street. Most recently we opened a second Rieker shop in Edinburgh, across from our multi-brand shop in Rose Street.
