Answer: Red Emma's is a worker cooperative and family of projects dedicated to autonomy, sustainability, participatory democracy, and solidarity. Since 2004, our space has been a grassroots answer to the collapse of civic infrastructure, a radical gathering place and experiment in self-organized education, all made possible by a horizontally organized collective of folks who own the underlying business cooperatively. We also serve some amazing ethically sourced food and a fine cup of transparently traded coffee. Our Values: Being a worker-run collective is the foundation of our politics, but its not the whole story. Heres some of the other commitments we put into practice on a daily basis: Sustainability: as far as is possible, we try to minimize waste, and maximize recycling and reuse. Animal friendly: we are a 100% vegetarian cafe, and focus extensively on our vegan menu. Safe space: theres no room for racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, or ableist behavior in our space. Support for the independent publishing ecosystem: as much as possible, we support noncorporate presses and distributors that share our values.
