Answer: Mastel Precision has been involved exclusively in the design and production of ophthalmic surgical instrumentation since 1981. The company founder, Doug Mastel, a metallurgical engineer by training, began his career making diamond-tipped drill bits. When Alan Baribeau requested him to make diamond scalpels for corneal surgery, he seized the opportunity. Today, Mastel Precision makes the industry's finest instruments with a philosophy of 'patient care comes first'. Mastel Precision strives to provide fine metalworking and specialize in ultra-thin, reduced-angle cutting edges. Precise instrument finishing results in minimally invasive incisions, thereby improving safety and efficiency for the eye surgeon. Our experienced craftsmen and technicians make all of this possible. We are one of the few remaining domestic companies that designs and develops diamond scalpels for ophthalmic surgical applications. We have continually emphasized strict Quality Systems Implementation, and are ISO certified (ISO 13485:2016 (MDSAP)), FDA-registered, and Health Canada Registered.
