At Keystone Mediation, clients can participate in a voluntary process in which the Mediator works through the divorce process with a couple over a series of Mediation sessions. Throughout these sessions, the Mediator helps identify the issues and facilitates discussions around the division of assets, spousal and child support, and assists clients with crafting a long-lasting parenting plan as well as other matters on which the couple must make decisions. The result is a mutually developed, legally binding agreement that both parties agree to comply. The mediation process helps clients stay in control of their own divorce and stay out of the courtroom where costs can skyrocket. In a traditional, litigated divorce, you hand over control of your divorce process to your lawyers, a judge, and the court system. You will have input throughout the process, but ultimately, the outcome of your divorce will be decided by a judge based on arguments made by your lawyers. The important thing to remember in mediation is that you have choices in how your mediation process proceeds. Need weekend or evening sessions? No problem. Want to have your lawyers present at your sessions? Sure. Plus, we think youll quickly find that a mediation session in our office is much more casual and less intimidating than the stress and rigidity of a courtroom setting.
