Answer: Bennett Preservation Engineering is exclusively focused on structural engineering for historic preservation. Services include evaluating and recommending solutions to structural issues, restoration, structural strengthening, and seismic upgrades. With two structural engineers, two architectural preservationists, and an intern preservationist on staff, we are able to advise on, design, and specify repairs for a variety of historic materials related to structural repairs. The staff members have extensive preservation backgrounds and are focused on the long-term conservation and maintenance of historic structures. The employees of Bennett Preservation Engineering have worked on over 200 structures built in the 17th through the early 20th centuries. These structures range from ruins to historic churches in regular use. Construction technology and materials include wood framing, brick and stone masonry, cast and wrought iron, tabby, coquina, early concrete, and hollow clay tile/terra cotta. A large number of these structures are listed on the National Register of Historic Places individually or as part of a historic district and sixteen are National Historic Landmarks. Bennett Preservation Engineering was founded in July of 2012. The staff of Bennett Preservation Engineering has provided services for numerous projects across the southeast, both with the current and with previous firms. We are very familiar with the approval processes frequently required for work on historic buildings, and we regularly work with and prepare submittals for approval by the National Park Service, State Historic Preservation Officers, and local review boards. We produce contract documents (drawings, specifications and contracts) for construction, assist owners with bidding or negotiation and administer construction contracts to completion.
