Answer: YWCA Greater Charleston is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. And we will settle for nothing else. For 113 years, YWCA Greater Charleston has worked to eliminate racism and empower women in Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester Counties. Among our initiatives to eliminate racism are our 10-day MLK Celebration, one of the Charleston's longest running events; our annual Stand Against Racism; and our Racial Equity Institute workshops equipping local leaders to address racism. We empower women with our annual What Women Bring event, attended by hundreds to celebrate South Carolinas women in business, community, and culture; WE 360, helping women of color overcome barriers in entrepreneurship; Own the Room public speaking workshops empowering womens business and career success; and Choose Well, reducing unintended pregnancies. We brought the first Girls Who Code club for middle school girls to Charleston, and our Y Girls Code technology coding program includes female students of all ages. We also host SheStrong, empowering high school girls to develop as leaders and changemakers. For more information, visit ywcagc.org.
