Youth referred for admission to the program will have been identifies by a mental health professional and/or alcohol and drug professional as meeting the DSM-IV criteria of having a substance dependency diagnosis. Youth Challenge is designed to help children who have just begun to have trouble. Common problems include but are not limited to: substance abuse, assault, theft, vandalism, truancy and problems at home. Youth Challenge is a highly structured, adventure-based residential program that over the course of eight weeks helps youth to understand they are responsible for their behavior and the consequences of that behavior.
