Answer: Woolaroc was established in 1925 as the ranch retreat of oilman Frank Phillips. The Frank Phillips Foundations, INC. is a 501(c) 3 operating foundation with the purpose of preserving and operating the Woolaroc Museum and Wildlife Preserve as the premier historical and educational attraction in Oklahoma. It was founded in 1937, and in 1944 Frank and Jane Phillips donated all of their personal ownership of Woolaroc to the Foundation. Woolaroc operates as a 3,700 acre working ranch that has a 50,000 square foot museum with a collection described by Christies of New York as one of the finest collections of southwest art in the world along with the original Lodge home and a large herd of bison, elk, longhorn cattle, scotch highland cattle and hundreds of deer. Woolaroc museum hosts an outstanding collection of western art and artifacts, Native American material, and one of the finest collections of Colt firearms in the world. The name is derived from three wordsthe woods, lakes, and rocks that make up the beautiful Osage Hills of northeast Oklahoma where Woolaroc is located. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Washington, D.C., and a NARM (North American Reciprocal Museum) member which allows members access to over 800 national museums for free. Will Rogers once said, 'When you are visiting the beauty spots of this country, don't overlook Frank Phillips' ranch and game preserve in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. It's the most unique place in this country.
