Answer: Watauga Humane Society was founded in 1969 to help homeless animals in Watauga County. The mission of the Society, then and now, is to prevent cruelty to animals, to promote the relief of suffering among animals, and to provide information on humane animal care. Our vision is a community where all pets are treated with kindness and respect. Watauga Humane Society's Irma Baker Lyons Adoption and Education Center provides a facility where the public and Watauga County Animal Control can bring abused, neglected, unwanted and abandoned animals, obtain low-cost spay/neuter services and learn about animal ownership and care. Students, community members, visitors and business partners enjoy getting involved with the animals through our volunteering program and regularly take advantage of the relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere of the Adoption Center.
