Answer: Voices of September 11th (VOICES) was founded in 2001 by Mary Fetchet, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and mother of Brad Fetchet, who perished on 9/11. VOICES is the preeminent 9/11 organization providing a clearinghouse of information and a wide range of support services that promote resiliency and address the long-term needs of the 9/11 community. The organization fills a support gap that exists with its innovative approach to providing long-term continuity of care, using social work practices to address the evolving needs of impacted families. VOICES is also committed to sharing its best practices with the 9/11 community to assist all communities in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from traumatic events over the long-term, and advocates for public policy reforms that promote national preparedness. Major program areas include providing relevant information, social work support and case management services, support groups, referrals, and outreach efforts that promote resiliency. To date, VOICES has hosted more than 20 conferences and outreach events, bringing together the 9/11 community to provide information and access to subject matter experts in the areas of mental and occupational health. In addition, VOICES commemorates the lives lost through the 9/11 Living Memorial Digital Archive Project. The 9/11 Living Memorial, which contains more than 70,000 images, is available on VOICES website and was gifted to the 9/11 Memorial Museum in New York City. In 2014, VOICES Center of Excellence for Community Resilience was launched to provides a multi-disciplinary approach to providing long-term support services for victims families, responders and survivors, through public-private partnerships with subject matter experts, government agencies, organizations and universities. Center initiatives include scholarly research, curriculum development and training.
