Answer: We are a team of research students who are making great strides in developing a prototype for a continuous biosensor for creatinine. Creatinine is a waste product that the body makes during digestion of protein and the breakdown of muscle tissue. Because this is removed from the blood by the kidneys it is an important biomarker for diagnosing and monitoring kidney failure. The team, based in TU/e, is comprised of talented and motivated students from a variety of disciplines, including medical sciences, applied physics, computer science and biomedical engenieering. Together, we are working hard to develop a biosensor that can accurately and efficiently detect creatinine continuously. We consider our work incredibly important, as kidney failure is a significant health concern around the world. By developing a biosensor that can detect creatinine, healthcare providers could quickly and easily monitor the development of kidney failure and start dialysis on time. We will present our biosensor at the SensUs 2024 competition at the end of August 2024, together with other student teams from all over the world working on the same goal.
