Answer: Triskelion Arts, lovingly referred to as Trisk, is an artist-run, nonprofit organization and live performance venue. Our mission is to provide a platform for programming that focuses on the development and presentation of work created by NYC-based dance and movement-based artists. We provide artists and audiences with high-quality, sustainable opportunities and experiences to create and present their work while minimizing barriers to entry. We view our organization as an incubator that acts to counterbalance mainstream productions and ideologies. We provide a platform for trailblazing work that broadens the cultural dialogue and elevates the many voices and perspectives of our community. Trisk has been an integral part of Brooklyns cultural landscape for the past 20 years, presenting movement-based artists on our stages and fostering their creative processes in our rehearsal studios. We opened in 2000 in Williamsburg with a single studio. And in 2015, we moved to our current Greenpoint home with an 88-seat black-box theater and five rehearsal studios. More than 800 original productions have taken place on our stages and artists have used countless subsidized rehearsal hours in our studios. From the start, we have been the underdog, operating with a minimal crew and limited funds. It has made us nimble, hospitable, crafty, and constantly inspired. These notions are woven into the fabric of our existence. Given this, we build our community, our programming, and our output on the premise of being heard. In 2019, we were recognized for our outstanding work in our community with an official citation and our borough's seal. We present artists practicing, crafting, mining, experimenting, speaking up, and speaking out. We are small but mighty, and our artists are pure magic. The goal is to clear a pathway for artists to focus on being artists.
