Answer: Founded in 1984, Three Rivers Rowing Association (TRRA) is a community based nonprofit rowing and paddling organization in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania that develops and delivers safe, sustainable and inclusive programs and events that teach and promote the benefits of rowing and paddling to a diverse community. TRRA was founded on the principle that community members of all ages, skill levels and socioeconomic backgrounds have affordable access to Western Pennsylvania's waterways. The Head of the Ohio (HOTO) Regatta, occurring annually in October and hosted by Three Rivers Rowing, is one of the largest two-day rowing events in the United States. In 2017, The Head of the Ohio celebrated its 31st anniversary. HOTO remains the club's signature event and provides support and visibility for its community programs, as well as furthering the organization's overall mission. More than 500 boats and 2,000 rowers from 100 rowing organizations in the U.S. and Canada participate each year. TRRA also hosts the Pittsburgh Indoor Rowing Championships each January, which is open to the wider community and has over 500 participants annually. It serves as a qualifying event for The World Indoor Rowing Championship. Three Rivers Rowing Association owns and operates two boathouses on the Allegheny River just north of downtown Pittsburgh. The Lambert Boathouse is located on Washington's Landing (formerly known as Herr's Island), and the Millvale Training Center is located on the adjacent river bank. Each boathouse contains weight rooms, locker rooms, training rooms with ergometers (rowing machines), storage bays holding rowing shells capable of carrying one to eight rowers and dragon boats. The Millvale complex also houses indoor rowing tanks for training purposes.
