Answer: Theatre Of Hearts is a nonprofit 501(c)3 community-based organization. Our mission is to promote understanding between people through cultural and artistic forums, and to empower local communities through education in the arts. The "Youth First" Artist-In-Residence Program was created to prevent and intervene in youth violence by involving under-served at risk youth, ages 4-28, in extended, high quality multidisciplinary fine arts educational workshops at juvenile detention facilities, community-based sites, and urban and alternative schools throughout LA County. Since 1992, our "Youth First" Artist-In-Residence Programs have successfully provided over 102,500 at-risk youth with a creative, safe, and positive environment that allows them the freedom of self-expression and helps them excel academically. These are provided free of charge to the participants. These programs in visual arts, music, dance, theatre & storytelling, and creative writing & poetry, adhere to the Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Content Standards for California Public Schools and the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English Language Arts.
