Answer: The year was 1884. Outfitted with 100 signatures and proper documentation, 31 Bangor citizens organized the exclusive Tarratine Club. Among that group of 31 was former U.S. vice president and first Tarratine Club President, Hannibal Hamlin. Made up of an elite group of local businessmen, the Tarratine Club served as a social club that fostered business growth and encouraged the progress of social services in the local community. In 1907, when design and construction of the 81 Park St. building was complete, the Tarratine Club relocated. There, club members met and mingled, taking full advantage of the three stunning floors and beautiful views. The club employed catering staff, offered fully stocked bars, and furnished games of pool and cards for members. There they stayed fully operational until selling the building in 1991. Today, thanks to the work of Bob and Tricia Quirk, the stunning 81 Park St. location is now open again to the public! It is in the honor of this piece of Bangorian history that The Tarratine now operates as a full service event space. Contact us today to discuss hosting your next social event in the home of the historic Tarratine Club! The Tarratine Building is an historic structure in Bangors Great Fire District. Stewardship of this wonderful buildings historic integrity has not enabled making the upper floors of the building fully handicapped accessible. We pledge to make every effort to honor all reasonable accommodation requests for you and your guests attending your event. Please inform us as early as possible of any requests for accommodations.
