Answer: The Student is the University of Edinburghs original student newspaper. It is Europe's oldest student newspaper, founded in 1887 by Robert Louis Stevenson. In 2006 and 2007, The Student held the title of Best Student Newspaper in Scotland, awarded by the Herald Student Press Awards. The Student regained the title in 2009 and held the title in 2010. Contributors to The Student has won various individual awards at both The Guardian's Student Media Awards and the Herald Awards. Many of The Student's former writers have gone on to become internationally renowned journalists and politicians. Past staff members of The Student include the former British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown: Lord Steel; the late Robin Cook; and many of Fleet Street's reporters and editors.
