Answer: The Music, Unity & Social Expansion (MUSE) Foundation is a nonprofit organization located in Boston, MA. The mission of MUSE is to promote and foster social connection through music. We currently facilitate two bands, a drum circle, and teach private music lessons. We also facilitate social events for neurodiverse adults. Music has been shown to accelerate the rate at which social bonds form, a phenomenon called "the ice-breaker effect." We believe that small music ensembles provide the perfect opportunity to foster social connections! Playing music with a group requires the coordination of time, behaviors, and goals between all of its members that goes far beyond every day interactions; being a part of a band teaches flexibility, cooperation, and confidence. MUSE students meet every week to practice together in a drum circle or full band, learning songs from the genres of Classic Rock to Pop. Each small group ensemble (6 or less students) is facilitated by the music director and at least two music instructors. MUSE firmly believes in the power that music can have in building camaraderie between peers. MUSE students are also invited to participate in frequent music or non-music related social events, which may include other community members. Students of all abilities are welcomed and accommodated!
