Answer: Prevention, when possible, reduces stress on emergency response systems and helps save lives. This is the same for mental health, and education is the key. Mental health literacy (MHL)- a part of health literacy - has historically been missing in schools. MHL is evidence-based, universal education. It is a public health approach and proactive solution to the current mental health crisis. The mental health education landscape is complex. This is a system issue. The MHLC helps implementation professionals (people and organizations) navigate the system and empower the schools they work with through our three core initiatives: MHL Advocacy; Program Research and Development; and Policy Support. Our mission is to make mental health literacy education foundational in PK-12 schools. We believe all students deserve to know about their own mental health. We help implementation leaders ensure students have access to MHL through education, collaboration, and innovation.
