Answer: What makes ALC unique is its full inclusion program. Children with special needs learn and play side by side with their typical peers in one of our four partner preschool programs. A typical classroom composition would be 90% typical children and 10% children with special needs. The success of this innovative approach is the result of a collaborative effort of a specially trained support teacher and the early childhood team. The ALC support teacher is responsible for individualizing the program to meet the childs developmental needs while supporting the education of their typical peers. We work to educate parents, teachers, and healthcare providers in an effort to affect change for children with disabilities throughout the community. We are working diligently to change the way children with special needs are viewed in their homes, classrooms, and the community at-large. We believe that with proper support, encouragement, and opportunity, all children can live out the lives of their dreams. Our current programs include: Inclusive preschool Individual Occupational, Speech, and Physical Therapies pending availability Observations of preschool children who are at risk for learning differences Training of early childhood educators on inclusion strategies and red flags for child development Resource and Referral Assistance with transitioning to community based programs Observations Next Steps: Supporting a family in understanding the maze of services and complexities that may arise with having a child with special needs.
