Answer: Joy Cruse founded TeamConnor Childhood Cancer Foundation as a non-profit 501(c)(3) in January 2008 while her son, Connor, was battling neuroblastoma. The sad fact is that more than 700 new cases of neuroblastoma are diagnosed in children each year and it is one of the most common forms of childhood and infant cancer in the United States. The startling statistic is that cancer kills more children each year than cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, asthma and AIDS combined; yet, the National Cancer Institute allocates only three percent of its budget to pediatric cancer. Most pediatric cancer treatments have not significantly improved in the past 20 years. Without funding, progress can not be made to advance childhood cancer treatments and a search for cures. For our most vulnerable victims, this is unacceptable. That is why the TeamConnor Childhood Cancer Foundation exists. Since TeamConnor's inception, the organization has donated more than $2.3 million to childhood cancer research and patient programs through our generous supporters, golf tournaments, auctions, fun runs, and various other fundraising events. Although, Connor lost his four-year battle with cancer on July 10, 2009, TeamConnor continues to fight on in his honor. TeamConnor's vision is that one day, we WILL find a cure for childhood cancer. Until that day comes, TeamConnor will harness all of our resources to raise awareness, support families and fund treatments to help find a cure.
