Answer: TaxometryTM is a Utah-based tax software company solving the challenges resulting from changes in requirements for online sales tax collection. TaxometryTMs software system collects required tax revenue for state governments and alleviates concerns for retailers about tax collection, compliance management and reporting. Prior to 2013, retailers were operating under the assumption that if they did not have a physical presence in the state the online purchase was made, the retailer was under no obligation to collect sales taxes. That assumption was challenged in December, 2013, when the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear Amazon/Overstock v. State of New York. In that case, Amazon argued that requiring retailers to collect Internet sales tax was unconstitutional. Since then, states have been actively passing legislation requiring merchants to collect online sales tax. With its core expertise focused on sales tax, TaxometryTM is well-positioned to provide seamless sales and use tax collection processes for retailers and tax agencies nationwide. As more and more retail transactions shift to online and other remote platforms, it is imperative that TaxometryTM stay ahead of the curve, proactive in its research, innovative in its technology and connected to public policy.
