Answer: Tangipahoa Parish began in 1869, when it was carved from Livingston Parish, St. Helena Parish, St. Tammany Parish, and Washington Parish. The name comes from the Tangipahoa River and the historic Tangipahoa Native American people. Tangipahoa is the youngest parish in the Florida Parishes region of the state. It was flooded in 1932 and in the early 1980s. In 2016, it was one of many parishes declared a Federal disaster area due to historic flooding in both March and August.
