Answer: Sweetwater Mission has prevented hunger and homelessness since 1968. Stabilizing families by providing basic needs and transforming lives through education and employment opportunities. The truth is that many families are just one life crisis away from being propelled into poverty. We are committed to battle the effects of poverty head on to stabilize families and help move them into a more abundant life. We are a coalition of local churches, businesses, civic groups, and caring individuals representing community at its very best! We Stabilize Families with our Food Pantry, Clothes Closet, and Family Assistance Our full-service client choice food pantry provides a variety of nutritious foods for families including meat and fresh produce. Clients may receive food every month for as long as they have a need. We also deliver food to senior citizens and disabled persons who live alone and have no transportation. Our clothing program provides new and gently used clothing items for all members of the family. We accept referrals from school social workers for new shoes, sock, underwear and uniform shirts for students. We provide baby diapers, bath soap, toothpaste and other personal hygiene products for families. We also offer laundry detergent and household cleaning supplies. We help stabilize families and prevent homelessness through a collaborative partnership with professional case managers within our community. Working closely with social workers we are able to provide assistance to families with critical needs. We transform lives with our work training and life skills programs. Our HOPE Program offers work readiness training in one of a three-part curriculum that includes computer skills, resume writing, interview skills, effective communication, work ethics and more. The goal is not just to help participants get a job, but to help them become retainable and promotable employees. Parts two and three focus on personal development. Students participate in a variety of in-depth personal assessments and receive instruction in decision making, accountability, financial literacy, anger management, conflict resolution, respecting cultural differences and more.
