Answer: The Sweet Readers mission is to empower young people through training, transformative programs and communities of support to become catalysts to end Alzheimer's while revitalizing elders in need. Founded in Manhattan in 2011, Sweet Readers is a 501c3 public charity that connects trained middle school students with adults struggling with Alzheimer's and related disorders. Sweet Readers was founded by mother-daughter Karen and Sophie Young as they found creative new ways to engage Sophie's grandmother who was struggling with Alzheimer's. Our core curriculum was developed collaboratively with help from MoMA, AFAM and the Metropolitan Museum of Art and our training was developed collaboratively with artists, art educators, poets, a game developer, a geriatrician, a neuroscientist, elderly with Alzheimer's and middle school students. Over the past five years Sweet Readers has provided programming for over 9,000 participants in five cities with the generous support from program and community partners including: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA, AFAM, MoBiA, The New York Historical Society, the American Museum of Natural History, The Kreeger, The Jewish Museum, Atria Senior Living, The Jewish Home, The Hebrew Home, Catholic Charities, Central Synagogue, The Trinity School, The Spence School, Chapin, Nightingale-Bamford School, Brunswick School, Eagle Hill School, Winston Prep, Holton-Arms, Landon, Collegiate, Ethical Culture Fieldston School, Alleyn's (UK), De La Salle Academy, The School at Columbia University, The Young Women's Leadership School, etc.
