Answer: Storycatchers works with youth in the juvenile justice system. We help them tell their stories through musical theatre. By moving beyond their histories, they transform their own lives, communities, and people like you who are ready to listen. Stories have the power to create empathy within us, and over time, people begin to see the world through the eyes of the ones they have opposed. - Jacob Rydell, Storycatchers alumnus and teaching artist. 73%-93% of incarcerated youth have experienced severe trauma. By providing a platform for youth to confront their trauma by writing and sharing their story, youth develop socially, emotionally, and creatively. These powerful stories create change, both individually and societally. We work with the Chicago Police Department in unique and critical ways. Our young people perform for judges and civic influencers. Every year, hundreds of at-risk children watch and discuss the stories performed in our musicals. Our goal is to teach youth the skills they need to emerge successfully from court-involvement and become leaders and mentors in their communities.
