Answer: Stop Child Predators is a non-profit organization that helps combat the sexual exploitation of children. We achieve these goals by bringing together a team of policy experts, law enforcement officers, community leaders, and parents to launch state and federal campaigns to inform lawmakers and the public about policy changes that will protect Americas children from sexual predators. Our model legislation, The Sexual Offenses Against Children Act, was modeled after Floridas Jessicas Law. Jessicas Law was named after Jessica Lunsford, the nine-year-old girl who was abducted, raped, and murdered in Florida in 2005 by a twice-convicted sex offender. Her father, Mark Lunsford, chairs our organizations advisory board. The law mandates a minimum 25-year prison sentence and lifetime electronic monitoring for adults convicted of lewd and lascivious acts against a child under the age of 12. Forty-four states have adopted a version of the law. In addition to encouraging the passage of Jessicas Law, Stop Child Predators combats internet crimes against children through its Stop Internet Predators initiative. We work with social networking sites, internet service providers, and other technology companies to support efforts to register electronic addresses, make accessible blocking and monitoring tools, enact tough penalties for enticement crimes, provide school districts with online safety curricula, and prevent the possession and distribution of child pornography.
