Answer: Founded in 1925, Steep Rock Association is a nationally-accredited land trust whose mission is to conserve ecologically and historically significant landscapes and riparian corridors in and around Washington CT and to enhance the communitys connection to nature through outreach, education, and passive recreation. We are a 501(c)(3) corporation governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees and supported mainly by private contributions. For nearly 100 years, SRA's conservation activities have stewarded the scenic beauty and rural charm of Washington and provided an oasis for people and wildlife alike. Our 2,600 acres of preserves and 2,700 acres of conservation easements protect core forests, ridgeline viewsheds, pristine water systems and the critical habitats that are home to hundreds of species. We invite you to explore the trails in our four preserves open to the public. They include Steep Rock at almost 1,000 acres, Hidden Valley at 700 acres, and Macricostas at 506 acres, and Johnson Farm at 52 acres. Judea Gardens at Macricostas Preserve is a community garden that produces and distributes over 3,000 pounds of fresh organic vegetables to food banks and residents in need in Litchfield County. Volunteer Join us working in the preserves, Judea Garden, or other areas in our organization, as we keep our lands a treasure for generations to come. Donate Every donation supports the land and trails that you love. Make a tax-deductible contribution, donate land, or include SRA in your legacy giving.
