Answer: The Steelworks Center of the West provides continuing education to the public through the preservation of historic archives, artifacts and buildings of the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company (CF&I), and related activities leading to the industrialization of the entire Western United States. The Steelworks Center accomplishes this by collecting, preserving and exhibiting collections of the steel and mining industries, Pueblos Bessemer Neighborhood, and the contributions and impacts working families in those industries made in the in the industrial West. The Steelworks Museum features exhibits, educational programs, a gift shop and the Steelworks Park, outdoor industrial artifact park, coming soon! The Steelworks Archives holds maps, employee records, accounts, films, photographs, labor relations records and miscellaneous items in the nationally recognized CF&I Collection. It is housed in 18 rooms in the historic Annex Building of the Colorado Fuel and Iron Corporation. This vast collection offers a wealth of information relating to labor history, history of industry, mining, railroads, and corporate history. It also includes records of general historical interest and of personal employee history. It traces the history of the huge enterprise that began as the Colorado Coal and Iron Company, which in turn is the history of Southern Colorado. Funding to preserve these records and make them accessible was provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities. We are located in the historic Administration Buildings across I-25 from the steel mill in Pueblo, Colorado. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Museum tours or research in the Steelworks Archives are by appointment. 719-564-9086.
