Answer: Our Mission: The Special Education Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(3)(c) organization whose mission is to assist children with disabilities in St. Louis County to achieve success in areas not supported by tax dollars. Our Vision: The Special Education Foundations successful, cutting-edge programs will positively impact students with disabilities. We will collaborate with Special School District of St. Louis County to understand areas of need. We will continue to increase our annual revenue in order to provide more services. We will be recognized as an effective organization within our community and region. Today, more than 16 percent of St. Louis County students receive special education services. Special education is costly; having a disability is expensive. As a result, additional resources are necessary to provide for the students many needs. To meet these needs, the Foundation steps in to provide support in critical areas that go beyond the walls of the classroom. The Foundation relies solely on private donations for support. The Foundation helps students through: - Scholarships for students who are college-bound - Summer camps to bridge the critical education gap between spring and fall - Hearing aids for children who are deaf and hard of hearing - Specialized equipment for children with physical disabilities - Mini-grants to teachers for innovative classroom projects - Leadership programs for high school students with special needs - Social skills training - Parent programs to provide information and support - Arts in the Classroom to bring art, music and dance to students - Financial support of Special Olympics to provide equipment, uniforms and trophies - Student recognition for achievements and accomplishments, including sponsorship of Special School Districts Commitment to Kids Banquet - Special projects for the five self-contained school buildings of Special School District of St. Louis County
