Answer: "It takes a child to raise a village." Koiyom is a village in the NW corner of South Sudan, two hours south of Darfur. In 1987 invaders killed many of the villagers. Some of the children escaped, walking 1,000 miles to a refugee camp in Kenya and eventually making it to the United States. They were called the "Lost Boys of Sudan." One of them was Fidele Dhan. With the help of 16 Catholic youth groups, Fidele returned to Koiyom many years later to build a 7-room-clinic, South Sudan Villages Clinic. The clinic opened April 1, 2019. It is supported through donations and treats people of Koiyom and the villages that surround it. In the first 4 years there have been 56,000 patient visits. Most of the villagers have never seen a doctor. Half of the patients are under the age of 5. Over 1,000 women have received pre-natal care. 96% of donations goes directly to program expenses of South Sudan Villages Clinic, a 501(c)(3) organization. "It takes a child to raise a village."
