Answer: Smile Builders provides on-site dental hygiene services to eligible students attending local schools or private preschool programs in Waterbury and Naugatuck. A certified dental hygienist and dental assistant travels to each site with two suitcases which unfolds into a dental chair and equipment. Dental providers fluent in Spanish, Portuguese and Albanian. Eligible students will receive a prophy (cleaning), fluoride treatment and sealants. Families of identified students needing further treatment will be contacted by the Smile Builders program to be linked to an appropriate dental provider- including StayWell Health Center or St. Marys Hospital. Dental visits are scheduled once every six months at every participating schools and eligible students are automatically scheduled to have their six month follow-up completed at their school sites within the same school year. Eligibility Criteria: Children: at least 2 years old at the time of service, enrolled in a private preschool/HeadStart or attending an elementary, middle or high school or an alternative learning program in the City of Waterbury, and the town of Naugatuck. who have not had a cleaning in the past 6 months, who have insurance through HUSKY,* currently not an active patient of another dental provider who are existing patients of the StayWells Dental Center and have not had a cleaning in the past six months. *Smile Builders will assist children, who do not have insurance.
