Answer: Founded in 1984, Severance Foods began as a manufacturer of corn and flour tortillas out of a small 7,000 square foot factory. At that point in time, there were just three employees. Our current President, Richard Stevens, was one of them. Using their Severance pay from Heublein, Inc., which was at the time the parent company of now recognized brands like Ortega, Grey Poupon, Jose Cuervo, and Smirnoff Vodka, the three founders purchased some old tortilla equipment and a fixer upper building in the North End of Hartford, CT. Tortillas were now rolling off the line for the ever expanding Mexican restaurant industry in the Northeast. Today we focus on tortilla chips and are a leading industry member at being innovative with new snack food flavors and ideas. While we started with corn, we now produce products with a variety of bases, including bean, rice, kale and cassava. Let us help you develop the next trendsetting snack food!
