Answer: Scraps is a new company with a new concept for the Mile High City: food scraps pick-up for multi-tenant buildings. On bikes. Scraps is a low-carbon, bicycle-based, flexible & local solution, tailored to multi-family housing. We use locally manufactured bicycle vehicles to pick up food scraps from multi-tenant building customers and transport the food scraps to collection points - large compost dumpsters - that are already part of the citys compost program, simply adding to the load that trucks already haul out to the regional compost processing facility. Unfortunately existing composting programs aren't able to offer services to buildings with more than seven units, and yet Denver is filled with multi-tenant buildings - more and more all the time. Plus: up to 50 percent of what Denverites throw in the landfill is organic matter that could be composted. Scraps addresses this problem in a way other waste haulers cant - because were scrappy. We're like a "last-mile solution" for food scraps, and we're adding value to the community with every mile: keeping organic waste out of the landfill, helping return food to the soil, adding to the local economy without adding greenhouse gas emissions to the air, and collaborating with other like-minded businesses and non-profits wherever we can. It's pretty simple. (And pretty cool.)
