Answer: The Scherman Foundation supports the arts and organizations that use community organizing and advocacy to build a more just, sustainable, and equitable New York, as well as those that strengthen democracy and advance environmental and reproductive justice nationwide. In its grantmaking, the Foundation prioritizes movement-building, long-term general operating grants, and funding groups led by and serving Black, Indigenous, and People of Color whose work addresses and dismantles systemic racism. The Foundation has a special commitment to New York City, focusing its Arts and Strengthening New York Communities programs exclusively there. This year, we are in the process of revising our guidelines to better reflect our two core commitments: advancing racial justice and emphasizing organizing, power shifting, and movement building in BIPOC communities across all our programs. During this transition, the Foundation is focused on providing final grants to current grantees that dont fit this new direction and increased support for those grantees that do, as well as a very limited number of new organizations. To provide transparency and clarity, we have suspended our rolling acceptance of Letters of Inquiry until our revised program guidelines are available in June 2024. We appreciate your understanding.
