Answer: We are approaching one of the largest demographic shifts in U.S. history. By the year 2030, one in five Americans will be 65 or older. In San Diego the population of adults 60 and up will skyrocket to nearly 1 million over the next decade. This influx will strain the already fragile network of existing services for seniors, increasing the risk of social isolation, loneliness and many other serious health concerns. Whats going to happen to our seniors? Who will care for them as they age? Are we prepared to accommodate this new generation of dynamic older adults? At the San Diego Seniors Community Foundation, we are developing solutions to these questions. We are a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) dedicated to improving the quality of life for local seniors. We believe all seniors deserve access to the resources to thrive, and envision a world where the older population of San Diego is nurtured into a healthy, fulfilling lifestyle; where they are socially connected, physically active, and a vital element of our community; where they are no longer vulnerable, but vibrant.
