Answer: The San Diego Regional Policy & Innovation Center (PIC) is a 501C3 organization that exists to conduct research and policy analysis and help solve the regions biggest problems. Its founding partners include the San Diego Foundation, the County of San Diego, and the worlds leading think tank The Brookings Institution. Since launching in August 2021, PIC has been on a mission to break down silos and build strong working relationships among San Diego regional leaders, government agencies, municipalities, and other community stakeholders. By doing so, PIC cultivates cross-sector, multi-jurisdictional collaborations focused on developing effective, research-informed solutions to key issues in the region and securing the federal and state funding needed to implement those solutions. PIC concentrates on four main areas: - Climate Resiliency: Taking action to mitigate and adapt to climate change - Housing: Increasing the quality and quantity of available housing to improve access and affordability - Community Wealth: Building power and prosperity in historically disinvested communities - Infrastructure: Increasing and leveraging improved materials, technologies and services that have measurable benefits for public good Over the next few years, PIC will continue building strong and diverse partnerships among the leaders of the region; use equity-centered research to identify the regions biggest needs, and the best opportunities for change, and secure funding for potential solutions; challenge systemic inequities; and develop a pipeline of potential scalable projects and pilots that improve the lives of San Diegans.
