Answer: Renville County Historical Society started in 1940 with a group of interested parties putting exhibits together and displaying them at the rotunda in the Renville County Courthouse located in Olivia, Minnesota. In the 1950s the organization was looking for a home to display and store all the items they had collected. After the RCHS board toured the Finntown hotel and other places it was decided to move the 2 Norfolk Township schoolhouses to the donated property in Morton, MN. The larger schoolhouse (District 28) was used as the Main Museum and the smaller (District 36) was turned back into a school. Over the years more buildings were added, 1869 Lerud log cabin from Sacred Heart Township was moved in 1961, Machine Shed added in the 1980s and the Main Museum building was dedicated in 1988 to keep the Historical Society in Morton. In 1997 the St. John's Church was moved from Olivia to Morton on the Museum grounds and in 2013 a building was built over the Lerud log cabin to preserve it. The new building is called the Heritage building which has exhibits and is used for various events. Admission 18 & Older $5.00 $5.00 Ages 6-17 $3.00 5 & Under Free that includes access to the Research Library and a tour of the grounds. In 2015 RCHS purchased the property to the south of the Main Museum and it will be an Educational Nature Area.
