Answer: The Pueblo Child Advocacy Center (PCAC) was established in 1986, the sixth CAC in the Nation and the very first in the State of Colorado. Today, there are over 1,500 CAC's throughout the United States. The purpose of the Center is to serve as the hub of the investigation of child abuse and to provide prevention education. Forensic interviews and medical exams are provided at no cost to the children and families we serve. We currently serve 12 counties in Southern Colorado and work closely with each entity involved in the multidisciplinary team (MDT). The MDT includes law enforcement, social services and mental health. The Center employs trained forensic interviewers, which are observed by law enforcement and recorded, so the child isn't further traumatized by repeating their story. The DVD stays with them throughout the life of their case. We want our families to feel safe at the Center, and provide Family Advocacy throughout the life of the case. We offer a myriad of resources to each family including prevention training.
