Answer: Project 30# is a social entrepreneurship enterprise that develops innovative solutions and programmes for social and economic development. The entity was founded in 2014, with key aim to provide capacity building support to small medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs), nonprofit organisations (NPOs), and community based organisations (CBOs). Particularly those operating in communities and areas that are marginalised and vulnerable including but is not limited to, rural areas, peri-urban areas, and urban poor enclaves. The formation of Project 30# was spurred on by the challenges and limitations that the teams identified among organisations operating in rural & marginalised areas. Challenges such as information and coordination deficit; insufficient organisational and business management skills; lack of financial and organisational sustainability as well as operational capacity. Over the years billions of Rands have been poured out by various government departments, private sector funds and other philanthropic as well as entrepreneurship programmes into establishing social enterprises and social programmes development. However, the rate at which SMMEs and programmes grow (become profitable, or stabilise) is far less than the rate at which funding is thrown into programmes. With so many ailing SMMEs and social development programmes, training and skills development as well as administrational support remain a key concern for funders.
