Answer: PrairieCare Fund is a registered grant making foundation with a mission to improve the health and well being of our communities. Founded in 2016 by compassionate clinicians, community advocates and legislators, the Fund is designed to promote the awareness of mental health services, advocating for those in need, educating professionals and creating opportunities for our communities to advance the delivery of health services. We believe the United States has the best tools, resources, training programs and research initiatives to create the world's best health care system - improving our current model of care. However, the failure to align services and interventions, along with the overspecialization within segments of health care, leads to fragmented care delivery and failure to identify and treat many comorbid conditions. Between 50% to 70% of primary care visits involve a behavioral health need that may not be apparent to the patient or provider. Most of our rural communities lack timely access to care and intervention necessary to prevent conditions from worsening and requiring more costly, and aggressive treatment alternatives. The negative stigma and lack of understanding of mental illnesses extends to the communities, teachers, health care professionals, school systems, employers and places of worship. PrairieCare Fund is addressing these problems in health care both in words and in action. We are working to break down barriers, raise awareness and make a difference in the lives of children and families dealing with mental health challenges, and building strong communities for generations to come!
