Answer: Our mission is to reduce plastic production, consumption, and waste as much as possible by working with brand owners, retailers, and consumers towards better plastic-related choices. Efforts will initially center on the Austin, TX area with hopes of expanding into other cities in the future. Initiatives include: CROWDSOURCING restaurant sustainability reviews via an app. Reviews help other diners find environmentally friendly restaurants and vote with their pocketbooks for sustainability. Every review generates plastic offset credits whereby plastic is removed from the environment through beach cleanups and similar events. Longer term, the data can inform public policy and drive research. CONSULTATIONS with restaurants on how to profitability go green. Volunteers help to access government programs, assist with number crunching, help to identify cost savings that will offset upfront investment, and serve as a sounding board. Usually, the financial case for converting from single-use plastics to reusables is strong when taking a comprehensive view. We take a dollars-and-cents approach that avoids culture wars. Tackling single-use plastics in high school CAFETERIAS. The aim is similar for restaurants: converting from throw-away materials to reusables. Austin-area high schools that rely on disposables can easily generate 1 million pieces of landfilled plastic per year. We feel that in addition to teaching math and reading, kids should also be taught civics and responsibility, and that normalizing such behavior is a disservice not just from a health and environmental standpoint, but also from a life lessons standpoint.
