Answer: Washington Pioneers have been meeting since 1871 in various locations around the State. In 1895, they merged and become the Pioneer Association of the State of Washington with headquarters in Seattle. Washington Pioneer Hall was built in 1910 on the shore of Lake Washington in Madison Park, Seattle on a lot donated by Judge John J. and Mrs. McGilvra. Miss Sarah Loretta Denny left a bequest of $20,000 in her will to construct the building. In 1970, Pioneer Hall was officially placed by the United States National Park Service in its register of Historic Places. Currently, a major renovation and repair of Pioneer Hall is planned to: resolve foundation settlement in east third of building, introduce seismic retrofit, install elevator access to all floors, relocate restrooms to west end, upgrade building systems for museum and library.
