Answer: The Period Education Project is a 501(c)(3) physician-led organization that is transforming menstrual health education by equipping future healthcare providers with the facts and confidence to deliver judgment-free and destigmatizing education in community settings for people of all genders. PEP teams up with youth serving community organizations to push healthcare beyond the clinic doors, one PEP Rally at a time! These PEP rallies introduce youth to female reproductive anatomy, menstrual cycle basics, period product safety, abnormal menstruation patterns, and local organizations that address period poverty. We eliminate barriers to menstrual health education that is medically accurate yet rarely provided in schools. PEP also partners with medical schools to cultivate diverse teams of medical students (called Period Pros) that lead workshops to communicate the shared experience of periods and the view that a person of any race, gender, or ethnicity can be a healthcare professional and leader. In addition, the medical students develop valuable clinical skills and grasp topics that are inconsistently covered in medical school curricula. When young people understand menstrual health, they are prepared to better advocate for their own health, recognize troubling health conditions and grow in confidence. PEP is working diligently to close girls and women's health care gaps.
