Answer: Pen Parentis, Ltd. incorporated in 2014, is a 501c3 literary nonprofit organization that provides resources to authors who are also parents. Marina Aris serves as Board President, with Treasurer Aditi Davray and Jamie B. Clarke as Secretary. There are currently eight Board members and 15 Advisory Board Members. Pen Parentis holds Guidestar Platinum Status. The organization has been the recipient of several New York City and State Arts grants. We are proud Amazon Literary Partners. In 2014, Pen Parentis was awarded STAR status as "emerging nonprofits to watch" from WQXR/WNYC radio stations. In addition to its long-running reading series, Pen Parentis offers an annual $1000 Writing Fellowship for New Parents, as well as a Facebook group for members to network. History: In 2009, Columbia MFA colleagues, M. M. De Voe and Arlaina Tibensky, began a distinctive downtown literary event held in the intimate upstairs library lounge of a Todd English venue. In 2013, the group rebranded the series and now holds monthly Pen Parentis Literary Salons in the beautiful Andaz Wall Street in the heart of the Financial District. Events are on the second Tuesday of each month in two seasons: September through December and February through May with an annual Winter Poetry Salon in January. The salons are made possible in part with public funds through a Creative Engagement Grant, supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and administered by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. Major support comes from Andaz Wall Street (a Hyatt Boutique Hotel). Other partners include Poets&Writers, Amazon Smile Foundation, Random House, Church Street School of Music and Art, ConEd, LMHQ, Foundation Center, Michael C Allen CPAs, and Pace University. Pen Parentis owes everything to an inaugural grant from the Sustainable Arts Foundation.
