Answer: PEER works with the public and private sectors to identify and implement innovative stormwater management solutions that benefit the community, environmental, and financial bottom lines. We lead each project, assembling local teams to execute the project from conception through operation, seeking to multiply and increase the positive local impacts of the investment. Since 2014, we have completed projects that manage runoff from over 50 impervious acres at a total project cost of approximately $8.6 million. We currently are active on two initiatives: (1) working with Philadelphia Water (PWD) to implement a policy modification under which private property owners will be reimbursed for installing Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) to manage runoff from public right-of-way. The contract that forms the basis for this loan application is the first such project in Philadelphia and represents a new avenue for funding GSI development. PEER is having ongoing, active discussions with PWD to apply this policy to additional properties, including community gardens and abandoned unused and Land Bank properties throughout the City. (2) PEER is an active team member in a William Penn Foundation program, the Resilient Communities Stormwater Initiative (RCSI), which is working to increase the expenditure of stormwater management funding to provide increased greening in historically underinvested communities. The team also includes The Nature Conservancy, The Academy of Natural Sciences, and Clean Water Action (CWA). The RCSI focus is in Kingsessing, in which PEER is the lead on developing an on-site stormwater management system and grant for the Woodland Village Shopping Center located at 6000 Woodland Avenue. This successful model is being implemented in additional neighborhoods. PEER participation with the team focuses on commercial and abandoned properties that have significant impervious area and/or can manage runoff from public right-of-way.
