Answer: The mission of POST is to help local children and their families courageously fight cancer by giving them compassionate emotional and financial support. Who We Help We provide free, high-quality, family-centered support services to children with cancer and their families living in six counties. (Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, Okeechobee and Hendry counties). A majority of our children receive treatment at the Palm Beach Childrens Hospital at St. Marys Medical Center or Palms West Hospital, however, any child with cancer is eligible to receive services if they reside in one of the six counties we serve. Family Support Services Having a child diagnosed with cancer is one of the most devastating events that a family can experience. Families are financially and emotionally devastated. Children can be traumatized by medical procedures and frequent exposure to strangers. Parents experience fear, anxiety, helplessness and a loss of control. Siblings may become jealous or angry as the parents attention is increasingly focused on the ill patient. Families feel isolated and alone, lacking the tools to manage these new and overwhelming experiences. Through multidisciplinary services, POST helps families cope with the impact of a childs diagnosis of cancer. Financial Assistance Program In addition to referring clients to local and national resources, POST also helps families with financial hardship. POST Financial Assistance Program provides relief towards basic needs such as housing, transportation, groceries and other daily living needs.
