Answer: In 1983, Governor Victor Atiyeh, asked our fledgling organization to lead the purchase of the lower 12 miles of the Deschutes River from the Eastern Oregon Land Company. He challenged the Foundations leaders to find an Oregon solution and thats just what we did. Working with groups large and small, the Foundation rallied support and raised the funds needed to preserve the lower Deschutes River for the people of Oregon. This is the nature of the work that the Oregon Wildlife Foundation does. We are an operating charitable foundation dedicated to raising public awareness of and funding for fish, wildlife, and public access projects throughout Oregon. Instead of lobbying for or litigating changes in policy our efforts are directed at getting projects on the ground funded that will help ensure Oregons future includes healthy populations of fish and wildlife and opportunities for the public to enjoy them.
