Answer: Grassroots and volunteer powered, OFDC is an efficient and diligent steward of donations. OFDC concentrates on what really matters:long term solutions to locally identified problems. Focusing on remote areas of Kenya, your donation actuates sustainability, self-reliance and human achievement. Our model is mutual collaboration-dedicated, skilled, and heart-felt volunteers from both sides of the world learning from each other. OFDC's Kenyan administrators oversee implementation of culturally sensitive, community-involved projects. The communities provide at least 20% of costs and unskilled labor. For example, people of a village wanted a well. We agreed to provide a professional well digger and materials. The villagers transported the materials to the village, and started digging. The well digger then finished the well. We dig wells in the dry season to make sure they will always give water. We use simple technology the villagers can replace and maintain themselves (winch, bucket, & rope). Throughout the year detailed expenditure reports with receipts and photos are emailed stateside for board review. An annual visit is made by a board member to inspect the community work performed with your donated dollars. These dollars go far in Kenyan shillings.
